[Indications] Norfloxacin capsules are a fluoroquinolone antibiotic indicated for urinary tract infections, gonorrhoea, prostatitis, intestinal infections, and typhoid and other Salmonella infections caused by susceptible bacteria. Because serious adverse reactions associated with fluoroquinolones have been reported, they should be used only when other treatment options are unsuitable.

[Usage and dosage] Administer orally with water. The usual adult doses are 400 mg twice daily for 3 days in acute uncomplicated lower urinary tract infection caused by Escherichia coli, Klebsiella or Proteus, 400 mg twice daily for 7 to 10 days in other uncomplicated urinary infections and for 10 to 21 days in complicated infections; a single dose of 800 to 1200 mg for uncomplicated gonococcal urethritis; 400 mg twice daily for 28 days for prostatitis; and 800 to 1200 mg daily in divided doses for 14 to 21 days for typhoid. Fluoroquinolones can cause tendon rupture, peripheral neuropathy and central nervous system effects.
