Paricalcitol Injection

[Indications] Paricalcitol injection is a selective vitamin D receptor activator indicated for the prevention and treatment of secondary hyperparathyroidism in patients with chronic kidney disease who are receiving haemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis.

[Usage and dosage] Administer as an intravenous bolus at any time during dialysis. The recommended starting dose is 0.04 to 0.1 micrograms/kg (2.8 to 7 micrograms), given no more frequently than every other day, and the dose is then adjusted at intervals of 2 to 4 weeks to bring intact parathyroid hormone into the target range. Serum calcium and phosphorus must be monitored, and the dose reduced or withheld if hypercalcaemia or a raised calcium-phosphorus product occurs.
