[Indications] Oxytocin injection is indicated for the induction and augmentation of labour, for the prevention and treatment of postpartum or post-abortion haemorrhage caused by uterine atony, and for the completion of an incomplete abortion.

[Usage and dosage] Administer by intravenous infusion after dilution in sodium chloride injection, or by intramuscular injection, according to the indication. For induction or augmentation of labour, the infusion is started at 1 to 2 milliunits per minute and increased at intervals until contractions resemble normal labour, usually to 2 to 5 milliunits per minute and not exceeding 20 milliunits per minute. For the control of postpartum haemorrhage, 10 to 40 international units are infused, and 5 to 10 international units are given intramuscularly after delivery of the placenta. Continuous uterine and fetal monitoring is required during labour.
