Metronidazole Glucose Injection

[Indications] Metronidazole Injection is indicated for the treatment of serious infections caused by susceptible anaerobic bacteria, including intra-abdominal infections, skin and skin structure infections, gynecologic infections, bacterial septicemia, bone and joint infections, central nervous system infections, lower respiratory tract infections, and endocarditis, as specified in the applicable prescribing information.

[Usage and dosage] This product is administered by slow intravenous infusion. For adults with anaerobic bacterial infections, the labeled regimen includes a loading dose of 15 mg/kg infused over one hour, followed six hours after initiation of the loading dose by 7.5 mg/kg infused over one hour every six hours. For a 70-kg adult, these doses correspond to approximately 1 g initially and 500 mg per maintenance dose. The usual treatment duration is 7–10 days, although some infections may require longer treatment. The final regimen must be confirmed against the prescribing information for the specific formulation.
