Metronidazole sodium chloride injection

[Indications] Metronidazole Injection is indicated for the treatment of serious infections caused by susceptible anaerobic bacteria. These may include infections involving the central nervous system, lower respiratory tract, endocardium, and other sites when caused by susceptible anaerobic organisms. It may also be used for perioperative prophylaxis in selected adult patients undergoing elective colorectal surgery.

[Usage and dosage] Metronidazole Injection is administered by slow intravenous infusion. For adults being treated for anaerobic infections, the labeled regimen includes a loading dose of 15 mg/kg infused over one hour, followed by 7.5 mg/kg infused over one hour every six hours. For a 70 kg adult, these doses correspond approximately to 1 g for the loading dose and 500 mg for each maintenance dose. The first maintenance dose is administered six hours after initiation of the loading dose. Dosage should be adjusted or monitored as appropriate in patients with severe hepatic impairment.
