Diazepam Tablets

[Indications] Diazepam tablets are indicated for the short-term relief of anxiety and insomnia, for muscle spasm of various origins, as adjunctive treatment in epilepsy, including febrile seizures, for alcohol withdrawal, and for premedication before procedures.

[Usage and dosage] Give orally; the dose is individualised. For anxiety in adults, the usual dose is 2 mg three times daily, increased if necessary to a maximum of 30 mg daily in divided doses; for muscle spasm, 2 to 15 mg daily in divided doses; and for premedication, 5 to 10 mg before the procedure. Elderly or debilitated patients should start with 2 to 2.5 mg once or twice daily. Treatment should be as short as possible because of the risk of dependence, and alcohol and driving must be avoided.
