Tranexamic Acid Injection

[Specification] 2.5 mL: 0.25 g; 5 mL: 0.25 g; 10 mL: 1 g

[Indications] Tranexamic acid injection is an antifibrinolytic agent indicated for bleeding caused by acute or chronic, localised or generalised primary fibrinolysis, including bleeding after abortion, placental abruption, intrauterine fetal death or amniotic fluid embolism, menorrhagia associated with local fibrinolysis, certain cases of intracranial haemorrhage, hereditary angioedema, bleeding in haemophilia, and bleeding after surgery or trauma of organs rich in plasminogen activators such as the prostate, urinary tract, lung, uterus, adrenal gland and thyroid.

[Usage and dosage] Give by intravenous injection or infusion. The usual adult dose is 0.25 to 0.5 g per dose, giving 0.75 to 2 g daily, with higher doses used for bleeding due to primary fibrinolysis; in cardiac surgery, a loading dose of 20 mg/kg is infused over 20 minutes after induction of anaesthesia and before incision, followed by a maintenance infusion of 15 mg/kg per hour until the end of surgery. Tranexamic acid must not be given in disseminated intravascular coagulation before heparinisation, and it is compatible with sodium chloride 0.9% and glucose 5% solutions for up to 6 hours at 25 degrees Celsius.
