Vitamin K1 Injection
[Specification] 1 mL: 10 mg
[Indications] Vitamin K1 (phytomenadione) injection is indicated for bleeding caused by vitamin K deficiency, including bleeding associated with obstructive jaundice, biliary fistula and chronic diarrhoea, hypoprothrombinemia induced by coumarin anticoagulants or sodium salicylate, haemorrhagic disease of the newborn, and vitamin K deficiency resulting from prolonged broad-spectrum antibiotic therapy.
[Usage and dosage] Give by intramuscular or deep subcutaneous injection, using slow intravenous injection only when necessary. For hypoprothrombinemia, the usual adult dose is 10 mg once or twice daily, with no more than 40 mg in 24 hours; to prevent haemorrhagic disease of the newborn, 0.5 to 1 mg is given intramuscularly or subcutaneously after birth, or 2 to 5 mg is given to the mother 12 to 24 hours before delivery. When given intravenously, the rate must not exceed 1 mg per minute because of the risk of anaphylactoid reactions.
